On Monday, Elon Musk reintroduced Twitter Blue following a disastrous initial effort that included a shocking number of fake accounts that alarmed advertisers and raised concerns about the site’s survival.

Elon Musk’s Twitter Blue: Initial Attempt

The initial attempt was last month, just 10 days after Elon Musk bought the platform for $44 billion. He also laid off numerous employees which resulted in the halving of the company’s staff. The layoff included teams of employees in charge of content moderation too.

The revival of Twitter Blue comes as the owner of Tesla, Elon Musk, has increased his support for right-wing causes on Twitter, such as opposing the usage of gender-neutral pronouns and the US government’s response to Covid-19.
Initially, people who tried to sign up on Twitter’s website were told to do so through the Twitter app for Apple devices, where the program was more expensive. However, on Monday, the subscription became accessible through Twitter’s website, according to sources.

How Much Does The Subscription Cost?

The blue tick on Twitter was free earlier. However, in an effort to prevent impersonation and false information, Twitter now only allows organizations and celebrities to use the blue tick that signifies their accounts have been verified by the platform.
Users who use Twitter through the web will be paying $8 per month for the subscription service, while those who use an Apple device will be paying $11 per month.

A few hours after the relaunch, Twitter disbanded its Trust and Safety Council, raising questions about how the platform’s new owner, Elon Musk, plans to safeguard its users. Twitter executives, including the organization’s new head of trust and safety, were scheduled to meet with the outside group of civil rights and human rights organizations that advises Twitter on issues ranging from hate speech and child exploitation to mental health and suicide prevention. However, according to some council members, they received an email less than an hour earlier informing them of the council’s dissolution.

Why Is Twitter Blue More Expensive For Apple Users?

Well, by the looks of it, Twitter is passing along the 30% commission that Apple typically charges on in-app purchases made through the Apple App Store to subscribers. The reason why Twitter Blue is more expensive for Apple users is still not justified by the platform. Apple tax has long been a source of annoyance for app developers and a source of concern for regulators worldwide who consider the price excessive and financially detrimental to Apple’s competitors.
